What are keywords?
Keywords are terms or phrases used by people looking for web sites via search engines. Click Optimize has determined that there are "Qualified" and "Non-Qualified" search terms. Search terms and keywords are "Qualified if the search includes a city, state, or location. "Non-Qualified" searches are preformed when looking for broad information that do not include such as a city, state or location. So if someone searching for a site enters the keyword phrase "internet marketing company" the search engine will produce a list of sites which match these criteria on a national or even global level. If the phrase "internet marketing company nc" is searched the search term "internet marketing company" is qualified by the state of "north carolina". What are search engine "optimized" websites?
Special "optimized" website pages are created and designed to rank well when a user enters certain keywords, or search terms into a search engine. This is achieved by inserting the keyword at strategic places in the code and text on the page. Special (non spam) techniques can be used to make this optimization invisible to the user.

What is the difference between a directory and an index?
A directory is maintained by human editors who review submitted sites and organize them into specific categories. Yahoo is the most well known "human" directory. On the other hand programs called spiders crawl the Internet looking for content and index that content automatically.

What are meta tags?
A meta tag is a section of a web page which is invisible in a browser but readable by the search engine indexing 'spiders'. The tags contain a description of the page and a list of relevant keywords. The search engines use this information to help categorize and rank the page in their indices.

The length of time varies from engine to engine. Search Engines index millions of new sites every day, as well as checking the integrity of the sites already listed. Why do rankings sometimes go down?
Search engines change the algorithm they use to rank search results. Some engines tend to weight rankings in favor of newly submitted sites. Why are some of my keywords not listed?
This can be caused by a number of factors. Some keywords are much more competitive than others and make it much more difficult to obtain high rankings. Because of this challenge we utilize a rigorous keyword research tool at the beginning of website promotion. This will help you determine the keywords which are targeted and are attainable. Some engines also limit the number of pages listed per site to keep the size of their indices down and will only include pages optimized for some of your keywords. You will also find that your site is probably listed for fewer keywords in the directories than it is in the indices.
